EDUCATE YO’SELF

“The Lessons of History” by Will and Ariel Durant is possibly one of the most interesting books I’ve ever read.
It is a collection of various essays discussing history across the entirety of civilisation through subjects such as Economy, Religion, War, Philosophy, Art and Science. It covers A LOT!
The book opens by making a key point, what are we doing with history? Are we just reminiscing dates and glorified killings of kings or is there some pattern or similarities we can observe that can teach us about which direction we are going in the present.
Basically, are we gonna destroy ourselves in the same ways other civilisations have? MAJOR!
Throughout the essays we hear just about every way of living that has ever existed: individuals, tribes, communities, societies, governments and civilisations. We weigh up the pros and cons, successes and flaws of communistic, socialist and mixed societies. We look at capitalism, monarchism and anarchism. We understand the benefits and destruction of Religion, where things have their place and where they cause perhaps unnecessary destruction and what moral, social and analytic journey humanity has followed.
There are some particularly interesting views discussed on Art. We look at how it was once so governed and identifiable and how it has evolved and been deconstructed. We are then asked if we are missing out if we stay stuck in our old ways and deny the age of the experiment.
We take a detached and fully open-minded view at life in the past and present. We take a view on what we did and what could have changed and finally, we are proposed with some ideas for the future.
Now of course we are discussing experimental proposed ideals which would pretty much need the co-operation of the majority of mankind to read this book and commit to trying them, which seems a long shot. But huge kudos to Will and Ariel for going there. I mean they really did. They basically said, “common guys, let’s not be blinkered idiots and make all the same mistakes we have already made. Let’s try something new, who knows, we might just enjoy each others company better!”.
I mean, WOW! Yes please. If only they had given us this book in school! But they didn’t, so I’m sharing it with you now.
Thanks to Tai Lopez @ www.tailopez.com for recommending it and to Will and Ariel Durant for researching and writing it…and all in less than 150 PAGES!
Seriously, you all should get on this shit!
It’s potent.
