MENTAL HEALTH PORN: [AIR]

BREATHE IT IN!

Air, one of the most vital components for human life.

Yet for many it seems not to matter as to the quality of their air. Some even  purposefully poison their air. And others may be so surrounded by poisoned air that they don’t know what clean air tastes like.

What I have found is that even though living in a big city can be fun, and being in dingy clubs with dry ice and sweat can be fun and I even enjoy the smoke filled clubs in Europe – (namely Berlin); the value of returning to a space of good air is hugely positive for my head and pretty much an essential activity in the maintenance of my wellbeing.

I am currently in Margate and only two days down the line the difference is being felt. When I wake up and open the back door with my coffee I breathe in fresh Sea air instead of South Tottenham smog. My head breathes with it and I can think that much clearer.

The idea that the Sea air is healing is no new discovery. In Victorian times they even had Sea Bathing Hospitals here in Margate where patients would sit in beds on the terrace outside watching the sea and breathing it in.

I do the same but without the attentive nurses.

The sea is not the only place to get good air though.

Annually I get the opportunity to visit some alpine mountains, and on the years I haven’t I’ve found some hills in the UK.

Being in the Mountains can be breathtaking visually but it gives it all back and more when you suck a big gulp of air in. The atmosphere may be thinner the higher you go, but the air is definitely cleaner. Especially when you are around forested areas with pine tree’s sharing the air with you.

All in all the benefits of being in these places has improved the state of my Mental Health.

Smoking, eating junk food, living in a polluted environment and hiding from the outside world are all things that will limit me from getting my healthy share of air.

So if you do these things and they are making you unhappy, perhaps try swapping one for a fresh air excursion or activity. Instead of a smoking break at work, ask for a fresh air break, (or if your boss doesn’t get it tell them you need a smoking break and just don’t smoke); that 10 minutes of air may just blast out some brain shit and put you back on track to a clear head.

GET SOME AIR!

It’s good for ya’!
