YOU ARE NOT CRAZY!
Up until a month or so ago I hated running! I utterly loathed the way it tightened my chest, jiggled my insides and shook my brain waters. The unpleasant taste of blood in my mouth and the inevitable fluey feeling to follow was enough to stop me for running for years.
However, since travelling to ibiza and seeing all the healthy, happy looking runners I had begun to consider this activity again. Furthermore, my housemate Lucy Fizz was doing it and it seemed to be giving her a real buzz.
Ultimately I knew that this was a quick and sweaty way to my body goals and that I should just give it another bash.
It is now 10:30 on a Wednesday morning and I have already written four pages in my book, gulped down a whole green tea and started this blog post, not to mention been for a 5k run down the stunning Margate seaside.
I say this because two months ago I was still struggling severely with my depression in the mornings. It is not perfect now, however, it has most certainly improved with this morning exercise. I had begun it to sort my body and ultimately it has been far more beneficial to my head.
In a roundabout way this intense wakeup is actually far more restful for my day than when I get out of bed without doing it. In so many ways it gives my head space. Perhaps because the beautiful scenery reminds me that nature is bigger than me, perhaps because the fresh air clears out the leftover stodge from my sleep and perhaps because of the endorphins raised by the exercise itself. Or perhaps because I have renowned artist Scottee next to me egging my productive side on. Whatever it is, it is helping.
It is helping better than my morning drug dose of old, it is helping better than a hangover or a fry-up and it is also contributing to my body. It is not easy and it took me some time to build it into my day but it is bloody good.
So if you’re looking for a harmless way to improve your morning mental health. Zing yourself up with a run. Remember that in many ways the mental and physical are related.
I was never taught to run in school, I was never encouraged to run by the adverts on the telly, yet I have been given damaging chemicals time and time again by various doctors and told that they would help. I got through 6 psychiatrists until one of them told me to improve my diet, change my surroundings and do some exercise. Funnily enough they are the things that are working.
Another reason as to why “YOU ARE NOT CRAZY”, but the wold teaches you to be.
Go for a RUN!
