AMY WINEHOUSE
I just watched the Amy Winehouse film, “Amy”, at the Rio in Dalston.
I left feeling sick and overwhelmed so instead of writing a review I have written these lyrics in response…
–
There is not much left to try
When the world wants to watch you die.
You tried to tell them how you felt
About the cards your family dealt.
You tried so hard to feel
Yet the world had signed you a different deal.
You just wanted us to hear that you were dying for someone to hold you dear and set the world to rights in the cold nights.
And to have fun in life.
Yet the public doesn’t wish to watch fun when there’s the option of watching a gun trigger being pulled on a fruitful soul who can be sold a million times over.
The wealth of which couldn’t keep you sober.
So we’ll sail to the white cliffs of Dover and back to Black Park for another new start.
But we started rolling the stone too far in advance for you to have any chance.
Society has a need to fulfil its lonely greed.
It’s a taking thing.
They suck your blood when they watch you sing because honest themselves they could not be.
Yet they see you pouring truth pots from the rooftops.
Crying pains, crying rivers worth of rain at your disdain.
A disdain at the way we treat one another.
Because people do not wish to look at what they are doing.
They do not wish to see their actions brewing hatred and scorn,
Tearing unformed babies from the womb and sending you to your pre-destined doom.
And now the press can make money from your death
I’d be shocked to hear if any of them had a heart left.
Your legacy lives on and your voice resides yet the public hides its actions behind false cries.
Remember the way you feel after watching Amy’s deal.
And perhaps you’ll treat your neighbour with love and learn that your actions can turn humans to mud.
