La JohnJoseph is at the forefront of gender bending, politically active theatre, gracing our land with looks, books and shows, instigating thought and questioning society with a satirically astute manner.

With a bio close to the strength of Picasso’s wikipedia page, there is not much standing in the way of La JohnJoseph’s inevitable reign. I know her through the East London scene yet this one works wonders worldwide, attractively showing us what we so readily ignore in the fight for a better world.

Here’s what some major publications had to say…

“A genre pushing queer act” – The Quietus

“La JohnJoseph has fashioned a wonderland of depravity that perches somehow outside of all four dimensions.” – Dazed Digital

“An icon in the making.” – Time Out London

“Surely the artistic love child of Penny Arcade and William Blake…what is very clear is that this is a star in the making.” – The Stage

“Talent you find once or twice in a lifetime…worthy of an R. Firbanks or a Dame E. Sitwell.” – Prix de Flore winner, Bruce Benderson

Here at “Artpornblog”, we felt it totally necessary to engage, and air “La JohnJoseph’s”, genius with our readers so we got right in there with an interview.

Let’s hear what she had to say…

Q. I met you in a club…who are you?

A. Actually I think we met at Lime Wharf, when me and Tam who runs the joint, were perving at you and Alex and Mikey rehearsing in your little booty shorts. True story. #shestartedit

Q. Where are you from?

A. The People’s Socialist Republic of Merseyside. I despise nationalism, so I never say I’m English or even that I’m British, unless I’m being told to go back to my own country by some aggro pram face in Tesco. I have an incomprehensible accent, so people assume I’m a “fucking foreigner”, as one suave gentleman put it, when I asked the woman he was harassing if she was okay.

Q. How long have you been in London?

A. On and off for about ten years, though four of them were spent in the states, and four of them in Berlin, but I’ve been back for about a year, accidentally as it happens.

Q. Cottage or Cheese?

A. Can’t beat a pungent blue-veined stilton, can you la?

Q. Boil or Freeze?

A. It depends which member of the cabinet you mean.

Q. Content or Front?

A. Content of course. When we are rationed to two hours of electrical light per night, the front won’t matter quite so much.

Q. What does the London Club scene mean to you?

A. I’d say it’s where I forged nearly all of my London friendships, so it has been of infinite importance.

Q. How do you feel about the election result.

A. Have a guess la! I’m furious! Hell hath no fury like Cilla Black on a rampage!

Q. Do you you think it will impact the Queer scene in London? How?

A. Sadly, yes. Although it sometimes feels like it, London’s queer scene is not a glitzy little bubble floating in splendid isolation. We are bound to the plights and triumphs of our neighbours. We as the pariahs, the misfits, the token oddballs, the marginalized have the advantage when it comes to the forthcoming cuts, because we have been surviving and sheltering each other for light years already. I think that the sense of family and community that is fostered on the queer scene to such effect, the innovation and the strategies of creative resistance, could be offered to all Londoners, to the country as a whole, as a template to minimize and combat the Tory devastation.

Q. What are you doing right now?

A. Drinking coffee with coconut oil (thanks for the tip).

Q. What is next for LaJohnJoseph and where can we see you?

A. August 15th at the Southbank/Wonderground Festival, with my new hit show, “Practically Royalty”. One hour of pure satiric vitriol, punctuated by the occasional Taylor Swift number. In the meantime you can pick up a copy of my yummy steamy debut novel, “Everything Must Go” (ITNA Press) at Pages of Hackney. Or Amazon if you’re one of those people.
